Hey Cirque Running community, hope you’re enjoying the start to spring! If you’re looking for a quick and scenic trail run in North County San Diego to fit into your busy schedule, then Twin Peaks in Poway is a great option.
Located in the town of Poway, within the city of San Diego, Twin Peaks is a beautiful trail running option if your strapped for time and looking for a quick strike mission. It's also a great option if you want to get the heart rate up as the southern slopes of the trail are quite steep, climbing nearly 700' feet in roughly one mile. The trail is incredibly well maintained thanks to the Poway Trails Association/ Public Works Department, hats off to them for keeping these trails in pristine condition year round.
You can make this trail run as long as you'd like, as is the case with so many trails in San Diego. This video illustrates the most commonly ran/ hiked portion of the Twin Peaks trail, starting from Silverset Park and lollipopping counterclockwise back to the car. All together the elevation gain is around 700' feet over 2 miles, so a quick run indeed. The first steep running on the south side is well maintained and engineered, with granite rock steps strewn throughout the trail to the summit. The fun really kicks into gear when you drop off the north side from the summit and begin heading back to the car. The flowy running back down to the car is beyond fun and worth the steep climb to get to the summit. Make sure to take in the views once atop Twin Peaks as you'll have the Poway Skyline composing of Mount Woodson and Iron Mountain to the east. As I mention in the video, I've been working on a 20+ mile loop, beginning at Silverset Park and connecting Twin Peaks, Woodson, and Iron Mountain. The Poway Triple is almost there!
There's been a theme as you can probably see so far with our San Diego videos, that theme being Poway. Poway is a diamond in the rough, hosting over 78 miles of trails (click here for a link to the Poway trail system). The City in the Country, as they call Poway, not only hosts some of the best trails in San Diego, but it also has great food options all throughout town, most specifically on Midland, at Old Poway Park. Incredible trails and tasty food options, Poway is worth the visit for many reasons. Enjoy this video!
