Eagle Falls & Lake

Emerald Bay Must Do, South Lake Tahoe

Hey Cirque Running community, hope this video finds you well and enjoying the start to your week. I just wrapped up a fun little tour of Lake Tahoe during my trip up to run Broken Arrow Skyrace (yes I was in that nasty storm during the 46K you most likely heard about). Luckily I was able to snag some footage of some spots along the way so enjoy this first edit while you get rolling into your week!

Quite possibly one of the most popular trails in all of Lake Tahoe, Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake are tucked up against the popular tourist attraction, Emerald Bay, in South Lake Tahoe, a sight to see if you ever get the opportunity and worth the traffic jam you'll most likely encounter during busy summer months. Regardless of the trail traffic, this was an absolutely beautiful and punchy run and one worth doing if you have a quick second.

Eagle Falls itself was a mere .25 miles to get back to, maybe slightly more, so it's incredibly short. If you're heading into this zone, make sure to make this a bit longer and head all the way back to Eagle Lake, you'll be happy you did. Overall the run was a little over 2 miles with roughly 500' feet of elevation gain, so as you can see, it was short and punchy. There aren't a lot of places to really open it up due to the rocky terrain, but it was a beautiful and worthwhile run regardless. If you have the time, my recommendation would be head past Eagle Lake, putting you into Desolation Wilderness proper, and loop this run to the south over to Cascade Lake, making your way between Maggies North and South Peaks. That extension/ loop is around 6-7 miles and roughly 2,000' of elevation gain.

Make sure to check out our Trail Running GPX page so you can download the route and upload it to your watch or phone. This GPX page will be a continuous work in progress so make sure to take advantage of the GPX files we already have posted and be sure to check back weekly as we continue to update the page.
