Hey Substack community, Happy Monday! For those in sunny California, hope you enjoyed this late season low pressure system that slammed the state the past few days. It made for some interesting weather and conditions as we witnessed at The Canyons Endurance Runs this weekend!
This week’s video takes us up Bernardo Mountain in San Diego. This was my first time running this well known trail and it did not disappoint. I did this as an out and back run, starting in the dirt parking lot at South lake Hodges, a hot spot for hikers, bikers, and runners alike. The run consisted of a little over 7 miles with roughly 1,100' feet of elevation gain, passing through some scenic wetlands as you hug the northern shoreline of Lake Hodges, making your way towards Bernardo Mountain. As I mention in the video, 20-30 years ago Lake Hodges used to pass underneath the bridge we run over in the video, hence the bridge. Over the years the lake has receded, creating a habitat for many animals. When you're finished with your run, do yourself a favor and head east up Highland Valley Road. There's a handful of wineries with tasty food options scattered along Highland Valley with spectacular views all the way to the coast.
Make sure to check out our Trail Running GPX page so you can download the route and upload it to your watch or phone. This GPX page will be a continuous work in progress so make sure to take advantage of the GPX files we already have posted and be sure to check back weekly as we continue to update the page.
